2015 has been an exciting year for Block! In January we took our first trip to NY Now, one of America's largest gift shows. Our January visit coincided with one of the coldest winters on record, blizzards earlier in the week had almost prevented us from exhibiting at all! This month, however, we arrived to a sun soaked city, allowing us to really explore and enjoy all that New York has to offer. New York is truly awe inspiring. The landscape is both breath taking and familiar, having grown up watching the city on film. The incredible architecture of the city provides a surprise at every turn.

Prior to our trip our friends had recommended finding a roof with a view, the best way to see the city. The Gansevoort Hotel roof bar did not disappoint, it was a great way round off a long day at a trade show. We watched the New York sun set over the Hudson and enjoyed the cooler evening air.

The trade shows always provide a fantastic opportunity to check out new designs and get a feel for emerging trends. Walking around NY Now we could see that other exhibitors had been equally inspired by the New York skyline. We loved the playful 'Blockitecture' (above) by Areaware, and not just because of the brilliant name! The simple wooden blocks evoke a sense of playfulness, a fun alternative to the usual desk accessories. The product fits perfectly into the U.S. brand’s eclectic range.block-colour-blog-areaware

New for Seletti this summer, the ‘Skyline Dish Rack’ (above). We were intrigued by this innovative design by Italian brand Seletti, it certainly brings a much needed touch of style to the usual washing up rack! The silicone piece has been sculpted beautifully to represent a city scape much like New York's.

'Cocktail Tray' by Teroforma (above). This brand was a new discovery for us whilst at NY Now. You can probably tell what first attracted us to their stand...colour! The trays above are part of a collection of city scape inspired home ware. We love the way objects are layered to not only create the architecture, but to show how different colours work together. The design has a sense of old fashioned printing processes, taking things back to basic. We're looking forward to seeing more from this brand on our next trip to NY Now!block-colour-blog-burano

So our little Storage Houses were in good company at the exhibition! Inspired more by the quieter streets of Reykavic than New York, they had a fantastic response at the show. Look out for the Houses due into stock in September.
