This month our Shop Keepers are Lyndsey and Guy Goodger (above) from our lovely stockist Rose & Grey.
Lyndsey launched Rose & Grey in 2006 noticing that there was a gap in the market for selling beautiful furniture and accessories online. The company has evolved over the years and Lyndsey's husband, Guy joined her in 2014 as they grew. They have since relocated to a larger premises and opened their first showroom, redesigned the website several times, and taken on a team of staff. They now source products from all around Europe, specialising in furniture and accessories with a slightly Scandinavian aesthetic alongside their core range of sofas that are made in the U.K.
Hi Lyndsey, tell us a little bit about opening your showroom.
We’ve been trading online for ten years but our physical store opened in 2016. It’s our second birthday on June 4th!
Lots of our customers had been asking if we had a store as they wanted to view our furniture in person before purchasing. We’re based in Altrincham, just outside Manchester and felt like there was a gap in the market for a shop like ours so decided to open our own space. We found a premises large enough to also house our office and warehouse and recruited my brother to transform the space for us.
Tell us about your favourite details of your shop.
It’s so hard to pick just one! I suppose we’d have to say our wood-panelled walls in the front two rooms. They’ve become a little bit famous as we shoot most of our product imagery against them, and everyone on Instagram is always asking how we created them.
Please share with us a special moment for your shop.
Our opening day was lovely, seeing the reactions of our first customers, but we’d probably pick one of our Christmas shopping events. They have both been so much fun with local folk musicians playing, a local florist creating faux bouquets and a room filled with customers mingling and drinking Prosecco.
Have you had any surprise bestsellers?
Our number one best-selling item is actually our faux eucalyptus stem. We sell almost 200 stems a month!
What’s next for you and Rose & Grey?
We’re just about to extend our showroom, adding an extra three ‘rooms’ where we will be able to display more of our collection. Two of the rooms will be dedicated to our sofas and one to our faux flowers and plants, freeing up space to introduce more products to the rest of the showroom.
