International Women's Day is always an important event in the Block Design calendar. As a female-led, predominantly female team the ethos of the day resonates with us all. 

"International Women's Day (IWD) is a global celebration of the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. Each year, this day serves as a powerful reminder of the progress made towards gender equality and highlights the work that still needs to be done." IWD website

This year the campaign theme is Inspire Inclusion - a focus on the importance of diversity and empowerment in all aspects of society.

"This year's campaign theme underscores the crucial role of inclusion in achieving gender equality. It calls for action to break down barriers, challenge stereotypes, and create environments where all women are valued and respected. Inspire Inclusion encourages everyone to recognize the unique perspectives and contributions of women from all walks of life, including those from marginalized communities." IWD website



This year's theme is close to our founder Tara's heart. Last year she began work with the brilliant charity Gifted Women, supporting women in the Tavistock and Plymouth areas with getting into work. 

The charity is dedicated to helping women who are rebuilding their lives after substance misuse, homelessness and contact with the criminal justice system, with fresh starts and pathways into the world of work. They believe every woman is gifted with a wealth of skills and life experience to offer the workplace, and can shine with the right opportunities.



Gifted Women run an employability group work programme with work experience placements in local business, 1:1 support, peer mentoring and help with finding jobs or getting onto courses. Tara has been offering mentoring and also work experience placements at Block. The entire team has found it to be an enriching experience and we're looking forward to continuing to work with the charity this year.
